From a perilous train battle to a showdown with a deadly Silver Samurai, we’ll break down the plot, dissect the characters, and answer your burning questions:

  • Is this good storytelling?
  • How does it compare to other films, comics, and larger narratives?

I was like, okay, you know being chivalrous, but he

Unknown:

didn't have to go and stand in the rain all night, though.

Unknown:

Yeah, like, he's in a 90s r&b. The Wolverine loves you.

Unknown:

Hi, I'm chamar Griffith and I'm Andrew Tejada. We're going

Unknown:

through superhero productions to let you know if they're still

Unknown:

fun or the hype around it was dumb on Cape or cap, a Black

Unknown:

Nerd superhero podcast. You

Unknown:

Music. Welcome to this week's installment of Cape or cap, a

Unknown:

Black Nerd superhero podcast. My name is Chamar Griffith,

Unknown:

codename ComicChams and I am Andrew Tejada, codename Arete.

Unknown:

Andrew and I have known each other since 1996 that was the

Unknown:

year the 300x bullet train recorded a Japanese national

Unknown:

speed record of 275 miles per hour. For comparison, the

Unknown:

average subway train moves at 55 miles per hour. And if you don't

Unknown:

live in New York City, I'm sorry I don't have a better

Unknown:

comparison. I was gonna say that's a lie to New York City,

Unknown:

because I feel like only at certain stops does it move at 55

Unknown:

miles per hour. There's a delay. Oh, yeah, no, that's, that's the

Unknown:

top, that's the top, that's where it moves out. Like, that's

Unknown:

the top speed of an average frame. But like, normally it's

Unknown:

going like 15, and this thing is just pulling 275 in 1996 like,

Unknown:

Damn, it's fast. Uh, it kind of makes sense now, given this

Unknown:

movie, um, by which I mean the the writers and the directors

Unknown:

are a part of it. This is going to be, this is I finally have,

Unknown:

like, a almost 1996 uh, because today's movie, we are talking

Unknown:

about the Wolverine, that is right. We are continuing on with

Unknown:

our Ryan and Hugh road trip, um, where we are just covering a

Unknown:

bunch of the movies that may have just been forgotten about,

Unknown:

featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, either together or

Unknown:

apart in their separate roles that will culminate into this. I

Unknown:

think it's like still the number one movie right now of Deadpool

Unknown:

and Wolverine. I think they were dethroned by alien, alien

Unknown:

Romulus, domestically, at least. Okay, the aliens have taken

Unknown:

over, all right. Well, they had a great run. Speaking of run, we

Unknown:

have this movie, The Wolverine, with a run time of 127 minutes.

Unknown:

This 2013 PG, 13 film. So there is one scene in particular where

Unknown:

they use that. They use their allotment quite well, if I would

Unknown:

say so. This film serves as the sequel spin off of X Men last

Unknown:

stand, while somehow being the direct sequel to X Men origins,

Unknown:

Wolverine, sure, sure. Okay, technically, anything can be a

Unknown:

sequel to X Men origins, Wolverine, right. Yeah, like,

Unknown:

literally Clifford big, like, big, extraordinary journey could

Unknown:

be a sequel to X Men or Wolverine. Literally, everybody

Unknown:

was called forth in that movie. All right, so this Wolverine was

Unknown:

directed by James Mangold. This was his first time doing a

Unknown:

Wolverine movie. Um, you also know him as a director behind

Unknown:

Logan, Indiana Jones and the dial of destiny, Ford versus

Unknown:

Ferrari, circling back to that 200 mile per hour speed and

Unknown:

whatnot. Girl Interrupted, and I just thought this was hilarious,

Unknown:

he's also soon to be the director, according to IMDb. So

Unknown:

it could be wrong, but he's soon to be the director of a movie

Unknown:

called Crenshaw, which would be about a boy whose family falls

Unknown:

on hard times until he finds an imaginary friend a giant cat

Unknown:

named Crenshaw. I did not think we were going with that. You

Unknown:

okay, I sure. All right, yeah. I was like, I I mean, I've seen

Unknown:

Logan, and I do not know how he's gonna make anything that

Unknown:

might feature Kendrick Lamar, but that's besides the point.

Unknown:

We're gonna drop right into our writers of today. We got Scott

Unknown:

Frank, famous for his work on the Netflix series, Queen's

Unknown:

gambit. This is just one particular gripe I have about

Unknown:

this. If you download Queen's Gambit, the game you were

Unknown:

hoodwinked, that is just chess. I. Uh, he's teamed up with Mark

Unknown:

bromback, um, who wrote the recent plan the apes movie

Unknown:

series, uh, the Total Recall remake, Race to Witch Mountain.

Unknown:

Live Free or Die Hard and help with the rewrites for Logan, 50

Unknown:

Shades of Gray, and Tom Cruise is the mummy. There is just no

Unknown:

predicting what that person will do next. That is an incredible

Unknown:

resume. Just all around. Well done, getting everywhere. I

Unknown:

thought the same thing. I was just like, wow, this, this is,

Unknown:

this is really impressive, like, even just writing for Tom

Unknown:

Cruise, is the mummy was? He was something, um, so in total,

Unknown:

though, we are just looking at this movie, this movie currently

Unknown:

has a 71% on Rotten Tomatoes of the 69% score from the

Unknown:

audiences. So I guess it's fair to say that it was received

Unknown:

pretty okay across the board, across critics and fans. Now

Unknown:

into our cast list. We got returning as the Wolverine. We

Unknown:

got Hugh Jackman Tao akamoto plays the role of Mariko, a role

Unknown:

that she will hold right before playing mercy graves in DC EU's

Unknown:

Batman versus Superman Dawn of Justice. Yeah, I think she

Unknown:

probably liked Mariko better. You'll recognize this man from

Unknown:

the 2009 film push that starred Chris Evans um, later on you'll

Unknown:

see this man also in Zoolander two, as we have Hal yamanushi As

Unknown:

Mr. YASHIDA. Okay, that's a interesting resume. Uh, this

Unknown:

next actor will make his leap from government official in our

Unknown:

film today to shredder in the Michael Bay produced TM and T

Unknown:

movie as he had Brian T as noburu, yep. Oh, and prior to

Unknown:

all this, he also was DK and Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift.

Unknown:

That's what I'm talking about. Now. I'm invested team in the

Unknown:

teaming up. We got split Lana coda, chenkova and William Lee

Unknown:

as Dr green and Harada respectively. Um haunting,

Unknown:

Logan's dreams are fan Kane dancing, who's reprising her

Unknown:

role as Gene gray acting in the role of Shingen. We have a man

Unknown:

who is currently a lead actor, Emily Emmy nominee and Shogun,

Unknown:

the foster brother of Lee and rush hour. Three appearances

Unknown:

across Avengers end game bullet train told you it was gonna come

Unknown:

back and John Wick four, we have hiruki Sanada, who is once

Unknown:

again, Shingen YASHIDA, a legend, a legend cannot wait for

Unknown:

Mortal Kombat two as well. All this other stuff is great, but

Unknown:

I'm sorry, that's what I'm most excited to see him in this No,

Unknown:

he was great in Mortal Kombat there, Scorpion was great. I

Unknown:

love that film. And finally, hi Yukio, as Deadpool will say,

Unknown:

because we now have Rila Fukushima, who's playing this

Unknown:

character, a face we will remember in the Arrowverse as

Unknown:

Katana. Yeah, this, she had a very specific niche for a while

Unknown:

there. Um, but I guess her, her Yu Gi Oh, is very much more

Unknown:

fleshed out the Deadpool. No shade to the actress. It just,

Unknown:

that's just the way the role is written. I'm sorry, yes. And of

Unknown:

course, because we have a katana reference, we have to say at

Unknown:

some point, this is Katana. She does have Logan's back. Oh yeah,

Unknown:

we'll get to that red at the end. I have something for that.

Unknown:

All right, with that, let's be the best there is at what we do,

Unknown:

even if what we do isn't nice, and start our review of the

Unknown:

Wolverine in true Wolverine movie fashion. The first scene

Unknown:

is absolutely bonkers, and also one of the greatest intros

Unknown:

you've ever seen, because that's what these movies are really

Unknown:

good at doing. Because the atomic bomb is coming. It is

Unknown:

World War Two. The atomic bomb is on the way, so bad that even

Unknown:

the soldiers in Japan are releasing POWs and just giving

Unknown:

them a chance to run. And as the chaos is going around.

Unknown:

Everyone's running, everyone's trying to get to safety. We see

Unknown:

Wolverine is stuck in a well, and he's using his bone claws to

Unknown:

try to climb up, because presumably he was captured at

Unknown:

some point in the middle of the war, and he he's trying to get

Unknown:

out of this well before the bomb comes, there is a soldier named

Unknown:

YASHIDA who feels bad and tries to save Logan from the well, but

Unknown:

upon reaching them, reaching Logan, Logan's like, Dude, we're

Unknown:

already, we're we're already done for we might, I might as

Unknown:

well just chill in here. So with that, YASHIDA. A leaves Logan to

Unknown:

his own devices and prepares to create to commit sepaku Instead

Unknown:

of face the might of the atomic bomb.

ComicChams:

Well, he does it. He sees his fellow soldiers perform

ComicChams:

the act. But in this moment, he has some hesitation as he tries

ComicChams:

to turn around and run away, but he's immediately caught by

ComicChams:

Wolverine, who makes it out. He, by some miracle, I don't know

ComicChams:

what it was, he makes it out this one time and tells YASHIDA

ComicChams:

to run with them as the two of them head back into the

ComicChams:

underground well, that he was in, they feel like this is

ComicChams:

probably the best way to escape the blast, but again, it's a

ComicChams:

nuclear bomb, and unfortunately, they're unable to cover the well

ComicChams:

in time. So Wolverine is able to take some random piece of metal,

ComicChams:

I'm hoping it's led, and cover YASHIDA with it. Unfortunately,

ComicChams:

YASHIDA does experience some slight burns on his face, unsure

ComicChams:

if it's because the metal is being pressed too hard on his

ComicChams:

face and causes it to heat up, or is it the actual radiation,

ComicChams:

but Wolverine takes on the full brunt of the entire bombing, and

ComicChams:

it's enough that by the time everything passes, everything

ComicChams:

seems to have calmed down, at least in terms of of, well,

ComicChams:

explosion standards, but we know the actual effect, the long term

ComicChams:

effects of nuclear bombing. YASHIDA looks up and he sees

ComicChams:

this like burnt to a crisp Wolverine, like skin is peeling

ComicChams:

off. There's like he looks like he's just straight magma, but

ComicChams:

right before his eyes, he's also seeing Wolverine just

ComicChams:

regenerate. And it's a crazy scene, especially to open to,

ComicChams:

because it's like when you know we have a sense of what

ComicChams:

Wolverine's healing abilities are. But this is on a whole new

ComicChams:

level. And after all this happens, we jump over to, I'm

ComicChams:

assuming it's Canada only both, well, not quite yet, because

ComicChams:

before we jump to Canada, we get what you know, what also is a

ComicChams:

tradition for Wolverine movies, which, up to this point, which

ComicChams:

is ruining an awesome opening, by having him wake up to Jean

ComicChams:

gray. He's in bed with Jean Gray. I know, because these

ComicChams:

scenes happen so often. You forget when. But they start the

ComicChams:

movie with Logan waking up to Jean gray. And this is post X

ComicChams:

Men, The Last Stand, where, at the end of that movie, if you

ComicChams:

don't remember, Jean Gray was, uh, consumed by her dark

ComicChams:

alternate personality, and she asked for Logan to kill her, so

ComicChams:

he has a nightmare that he promises not to hurt anyone, but

ComicChams:

he wakes up, and he steps up in bed and realizes that he has

ComicChams:

already stabbed gene, so he sends up screaming, no, Gene,

ComicChams:

no. And then he wakes up in the forest of probably Canada. Yeah,

ComicChams:

he's just, like, hanging on a Wolverine. Has the most

ComicChams:

precarious positions to sleep in, like, I feel like, in X Men

ComicChams:

origins, he was just, like, on a random rock sculpture thing at

ComicChams:

the very top. And it was like, I don't know how he built the

ComicChams:

house. Now, he's like, camping on the side. He just, I mean,

ComicChams:

right, granted, he can't die, but at the same time, it's just

ComicChams:

like, Dude, there's, there's like a four seasons, or at

ComicChams:

least, like a Motel Six probably up the block. Anyway, he wakes

ComicChams:

up. We see now that it is definitely once again, was

ComicChams:

mentioned after the events of X Men last stand. Wolverine has

ComicChams:

grown all of his hair. He's got a full on beard, um, he's

ComicChams:

walking around a bit disheveled. And when he's there, he decides

ComicChams:

to head into town, and we see that he goes into a like a

ComicChams:

hardware store. And while he's there, there's a group of guys,

ComicChams:

a bunch of hunters, who are just like, I don't know. They're

ComicChams:

clearly just like, they're joking around, little worried

ComicChams:

about them being drunk, but they're also buying weapons and

ComicChams:

shooting them out in the streets. So it's just like, I

ComicChams:

don't understand how no one decided to, like, let me not

ComicChams:

serve this person. And Logan, he hears about this plan of them

ComicChams:

trying to tackle this bear, a bear that he actually saw a

ComicChams:

little earlier as he was heading into town, which I gotta say, is

ComicChams:

probably the most jacked bear I've ever seen in my life, the

ComicChams:

most jacked character right there, right off the bat. And

ComicChams:

the bear is just doing his own thing. But when Wolverine heads

ComicChams:

back, he does see that the bear was harmed. He hears some

ComicChams:

screams from people. He hears the screams of the bear. So when

ComicChams:

he goes to investigate, he finds the bear on the ground. There

ComicChams:

are a bunch of arrows in this body, and he decides that the

ComicChams:

best thing for him to do, because it does seem like the

ComicChams:

bear had been poisoned, was something. On the arrows is to

ComicChams:

just put it out of his misery. And this is where he pulls out

ComicChams:

one of the arrows and notes that it is covered in poison. So he

ComicChams:

goes into town, and he is offers to buy the man a drink at a bar.

ComicChams:

The man's telling this story about, oh man, I just barely

ComicChams:

escaped with my life. And overin stabs the man with the arrow

ComicChams:

saying, like, oh well, you know it's a cowardly to use poison on

ComicChams:

theirs. And if, if it's not poison, then you should be fine

ComicChams:

with this arrow, right? And once the man hits him, once Wolverine

ComicChams:

is fully prepared to kill this hunter in the middle of the bar,

ComicChams:

just being like, sorry, Gene just lost it to kill one guy who

ComicChams:

was gonna die anywhere from that poison, probably, um, but before

ComicChams:

he can kill anyone, Yukio arrives. She's been watching him

ComicChams:

for a while, and she says, Look, don't even worry about them.

ComicChams:

They're gonna die anyway. And after, after quickly dispatching

ComicChams:

the hunters with her considerable swords and fighting

ComicChams:

skills, she reveals that she came all the way here to find

ComicChams:

Logan so he can get another sharp thing, because, you know,

ComicChams:

he has claws. But isn't it cool if he had a sword, that's that's

ComicChams:

all she's here for. While he is in this car with her, uh, she

ComicChams:

shares that the person that hired her has been willing to

ComicChams:

meet with Logan, and he showed she shows him a sword, as well

ComicChams:

as a file that basically has all the details of his life, even

ComicChams:

back to when he had his short hair that he, for some reason,

ComicChams:

kept styling in a way where he was two pokes on the side of his

ComicChams:

head. That was a choice that was made because the mask in the

ComicChams:

suit wasn't ideal for Live Action X Men. This wasn't

ComicChams:

obvious enough, I guess. I don't know. So he's reluctant to go,

ComicChams:

and Yukio is pleading, telling him that, like, you know, it's

ComicChams:

just really one thing this meeting could offer you, the

ComicChams:

piece that you're looking for, because it will help complete a

ComicChams:

task of yours. The task is to assume that, mainly, like, he

ComicChams:

just wants to die, but so he decides, yeah, he'll go, but

ComicChams:

he'll only go for one day. And I was like, that's basically the

ComicChams:

entire flight over. But I digress, because while they're

ComicChams:

on the plane, Logan does share a little bit of a fear of flying,

ComicChams:

which I would assume is definitely connected to the

ComicChams:

mountains that the Blackbird was attacked and he was on the

ComicChams:

plane. But more importantly, Logan starts asking Yukio is

ComicChams:

like, Hey, how did you know that those guys were going to die?

ComicChams:

She just automatically assumes it to be in like, you know,

ComicChams:

their gun toting dummies. So this is most likely somebody was

ComicChams:

going to die in that group sooner rather than later. But he

ComicChams:

said, No, you really picked up on the fact that they were going

ComicChams:

to die all together in the same car three weeks from now. Like,

ComicChams:

that's not just gun toting dummies. So there's a hint there

ComicChams:

of her possibly having some kind of mutant ability, but we don't

ComicChams:

go further into that. It's just now just assumed by the viewer

ComicChams:

and by Wolverine that she can this is her skill. This is her

ComicChams:

mutant ability. Because as soon as the plane lands, we head on

ComicChams:

over to the Ishida compound is filled with armed guards.

ComicChams:

Wolverine's asking, what's going on? Why are there so many people

ComicChams:

with guns in an old man's place? And before he can even get a

ComicChams:

full answer, he's immediately, like, harassed by all these

ComicChams:

armed soldiers and gunmen. And he's then greeted by Shingen.

ComicChams:

Who is she, the son who is very upset with the presence of

ComicChams:

Wolverine here today. Yeah, we also he is introduced as a kind

ComicChams:

of swordsman, because we see him doing some kendo. And yeah, he's

ComicChams:

really just not for Wolverine. But before we really get to see

ComicChams:

shingon's deal, we're introduced to another character, Mariko,

ComicChams:

who is yeshida's granddaughter that has all these that she's

ComicChams:

just very proper. She seems to have a close relationship with

ComicChams:

Yukio and is mourning her grandfather's passing. And the

ComicChams:

reason he has all this guards is because YASHIDA is a tech God in

ComicChams:

the country, so he is, apparently like he he's in every

ComicChams:

tech industry. So he has unlimited money, and after

ComicChams:

Wolverine gets a much needed shower, we he finally reunites

ComicChams:

with his friend Yoshida, who is now old. He has the best bed in

ComicChams:

the world, that bed that kind of like, yes, adjusts to where

ComicChams:

you're sleeping and supports you perfectly. Is that what money

ComicChams:

can buy? Because on

ComicChams:

every point. Of his body. It's not just like a flat surface.

ComicChams:

It's like, oh, my arm's feeling a little tired right now. Let me

ComicChams:

get the support here from the third quadrant on the upper left

ComicChams:

region. Yeah. It's, oh God, come on. Somebody in tech make this

ComicChams:

happen. Not Elon, somebody else. And it's here where she says,

ComicChams:

hey, look, I'm dying, um, but I can make you mortal and help

ComicChams:

myself out. And basically he says, um, I can. He hints that

ComicChams:

he can remove Logan's healing factor, give it to himself. So

ComicChams:

it's like a but everybody wins. Yoshida gets to live longer, and

ComicChams:

Logan can grow old and die, except because I am on too many

ComicChams:

parts of the internet. It turns out that if, if Logan's healing

ComicChams:

factor was removed, the adamantium and the skeleton,

ComicChams:

would absolutely kill him almost instantly. Um, because the only

ComicChams:

thing keeping him alive from the adamantium poisoning is his

ComicChams:

healing factor. And another fun fact, and Logan, he's probably

ComicChams:

dying because they poisoned all the food to to kill mutants. So

ComicChams:

his healing factor weakened. That's That's why his healing

ComicChams:

factor couldn't keep up with the adamantium anymore. So all that

ComicChams:

to say, because Rashida didn't do his homework, Logan would

ComicChams:

definitely die without his healing factor. But in any case,

ComicChams:

it's like a double edged claw Exactly. Maybe Logan knew this

ComicChams:

because he rejects the offer and immediately walks into another

ComicChams:

movie, I guess, with Mariko, this next Mariko incident. So,

ComicChams:

yeah, so he decides to go and just like, do his own thing. Um,

ComicChams:

well, basically, what he ends up seeing is that Mariko and

ComicChams:

Shingen are having a very stern conversation. They're basically

ComicChams:

arguing here in the compound, and it results in shinkin

ComicChams:

slapping his daughter, um, you know, it's such a surprising

ComicChams:

scene, because it's not Logan doesn't know anything about this

ComicChams:

family, and neither do we. So it's just like we don't know

ComicChams:

what's happening here, and she immediately starts running

ComicChams:

towards a cliff to end her life. But Logan's able to catch her in

ComicChams:

time, which made me question, why was this place designed to

ComicChams:

not have railings near the cliffs if you're very high up?

ComicChams:

It does not make any sense. So he's like telling her that,

ComicChams:

like, Hey, you don't want to do that. She decides to retire for

ComicChams:

the night, as does Logan in separate places. This is when

ComicChams:

Logan and Yukio talk a little bit about why did Mariko decide

ComicChams:

to, like, the best course of action was to just run and jump

ComicChams:

off. But Yukio just said, tells her about tells him about her

ComicChams:

past and how she was found, how she grew up with Yukio. And as

ComicChams:

you mentioned, there are many, many sequences in West gene is

ComicChams:

just going to pop up with Logan's dreams. And at this

ComicChams:

point, it does seem like they're about to play a game with Udo,

ComicChams:

wink, wink, but he it turns out that the person that is supposed

ComicChams:

to be gene in his dream is actually Dr Green, who shoots

ComicChams:

off this like random mist down his mouth, and she she

ComicChams:

immediately jumps off of him. Logan, because he's thinking

ComicChams:

it's a dream. Doesn't really know what's going on, but when

ComicChams:

he wakes up, he sees everybody running around. There are people

ComicChams:

crying, and he learns that Yoshida has passed. So now we

ComicChams:

jump into the funeral, where it's basically treated as a full

ComicChams:

on press conference. There are reporters, there's the whole

ComicChams:

family, there are armed guards, the whole nine yards, and as

ComicChams:

they're walking through, Logan is trying to get more details.

ComicChams:

He sees Dr green, and it's just like, I think that's the woman I

ComicChams:

was trying to play Uno with, but I'm not too sure. But more

ComicChams:

importantly, there's a man in black who's perched on the

ComicChams:

rooftop just watching as the whole funeral procession is

ComicChams:

going on. And this is someone that we just have to think about

ComicChams:

later, because more importantly, we end up meeting mariko's

ComicChams:

fiance, norberomori. Yes, so Wolverine meets mariko's fiance,

ComicChams:

which is really good for Logan, because he's only into married

ComicChams:

woman. Don't at me, look at all the film series and tell me I'm

ComicChams:

wrong. So damn, this man's got a thing, right? And I think

ComicChams:

specifically, post amnesia, he became obsessed with married

ComicChams:

women. I don't know what that's about, but, I mean, we're like,

ComicChams:

listen, they got they don't have to worry about commitment.

ComicChams:

Already committed. And again, if anyone thinks I'm joking, what's

ComicChams:

the first scene of Days of Future Past when it goes back in

ComicChams:

the past? Is he not sleep? Thing with a mob boss who's already

ComicChams:

like, woman who's already married, like, yeah, he has a

ComicChams:

type. So at the funeral there we do see some friction with this

ComicChams:

new nuburo character. We see friction between Wolverine and

ComicChams:

again, Shingen Schengen is saying his dad was always

ComicChams:

obsessed with Logan. I mean, it would be nice to see, to have

ComicChams:

seen some of that, like, you know, posters of Logan on the

ComicChams:

wall, or, like, there's a scene with the three of them where

ComicChams:

he's, like, ignoring his son for Logan. But we don't really, we

ComicChams:

just have to take his word for it. And as the funeral is going

ComicChams:

on, in a really cool detail, Logan is looking at one of the

ComicChams:

religious men around, and he notices that there's a Yakuza

ComicChams:

tat under their robe. And now Logan keeps looking around. He's

ComicChams:

like a lot of these people look like they're undercover, so he

ComicChams:

makes a move to try to get Mariko out of there, and that's

ComicChams:

when a monk, one of the monks, shoots Wolverine, giving up his

ComicChams:

accused identity. And Wolverine, normally, he'd shake it off, but

ComicChams:

he finds surprisingly that this time, he is vulnerable to his

ComicChams:

injuries, and he can't just rush into battle as quickly as

ComicChams:

possible. And this is when, right as in the middle of all

ComicChams:

this, the guy we saw hiding on the roof, he decides to get

ComicChams:

involved too. Yeah, I'm gonna call him Japanese Hawkeye for a

ComicChams:

bit, because, um, he was a little bit better than an

ComicChams:

average Hawkeye. But I feel like this was the, this was the

ComicChams:

inspiration for the Avengers endgame sequence that will pop

ComicChams:

up like about five years later, five, six years later. So when

ComicChams:

everyone springs into action, Yukio does her best to try to

ComicChams:

stop him. Hawkeye here, he also tries to shoot down some of the

ComicChams:

the accuser members, while Logan's trying to just shake off

ComicChams:

everything, get back in the game. Weirdly, dr, green does

ComicChams:

something that I feel like is probably more common now than it

ComicChams:

would have been back like 10 years ago, which is to film the

ComicChams:

entire attack. Um, doesn't ever come back up. It doesn't. It

ComicChams:

really, doesn't. So as she's recording the attack, it does

ComicChams:

seem, though, when someone tries to attack her, that she's also

ComicChams:

meeting as well, because she shoots some venom from her mouth

ComicChams:

towards that person's face, the face burns off, and literally,

ComicChams:

that was such a big moment that gets like no preface after,

ComicChams:

nothing gets talked about afterwards. Uh, Marco's able to

ComicChams:

escape of Logan and Hawkeye, but, um, but at least it's full

ComicChams:

chase down the streets, where you basically see this guy

ComicChams:

running from the rooftops, from like rooftop to rooftop,

ComicChams:

surviving every almost single fall that he's making, making

ComicChams:

leafs on just one leg, which I gotta say, is pretty impressive.

ComicChams:

So they are able to escape. Unfortunately, though, it does

ComicChams:

leave with everyone getting separated, except for Marco and

ComicChams:

Logan, who Logan is literally chasing after her bleeding from

ComicChams:

every part of his body, and I can understand now why she

ComicChams:

didn't want to be near him, but fortunately for him, when Marcos

ComicChams:

and the ends up on a bullet train that has travels at 275

ComicChams:

miles per hour or faster, um, Logan is somehow in the seat

ComicChams:

next to her, and it's just decides, I'm just going to

ComicChams:

recline this seat. We're going to figure out the plan on how to

ComicChams:

survive. What's been going on here, yeah, and it's following

ComicChams:

this bit, which is, you know, it's great. It was fun. A lot of

ComicChams:

action, lot of great kills from Logan and the archer. We get a

ComicChams:

strange sort of scene where we go back to the funeral, and

ComicChams:

mariko's fiance is clearly more concerned with being on camera

ComicChams:

than the welfare of his wife. On top of that, in the middle of

ComicChams:

the previous scene, Shingen forced, forced Yukio to protect

ComicChams:

him instead of go after his daughter, which was weird in the

ComicChams:

moment, and now he's also insulting Yukio. And saying,

ComicChams:

like, remember that you're, you know, you're just a stray that

ComicChams:

was picked up by the family, which I'm not sure why he's

ComicChams:

bringing that up. Now, I really this scene was really confusing

ComicChams:

to me. I don't know why anything was happening here,

ComicChams:

but it was really just to show that, just extra scenes, to just

ComicChams:

show that Schengen is a jerk, which is, like, we get it

ComicChams:

already, like, I don't need to know anymore, like, I knew he

ComicChams:

was a jerk ever since he slapped his daughter. Like, yeah, that's

ComicChams:

it. Show me him, show him. Show him being a punk. To me, I'd

ComicChams:

rather that. Because then it'd be like, if he's like, all these

ComicChams:

accusing members are out there, he couldn't even protect his

ComicChams:

daughter because he's, like, trying to hide with Yukio. Like,

ComicChams:

I'd rather just that versus like, let me now show that

ComicChams:

Shingen is assault is insulting to Yukio, which we got like,

ComicChams:

four scenes of before, and it was just like, it's enough.

ComicChams:

Yeah, we we get it. We get it. Um, so after that sequence, we

ComicChams:

do get what arguably is the best sequence in the movie where, um,

ComicChams:

back on the bullet train, Wolverine is going in the

ComicChams:

bathroom. He notices he's still bleeding, and he's really now at

ComicChams:

this point, like Something is definitely wrong with my healing

ComicChams:

factors, something has gone up, and just as he pulls out of the

ComicChams:

bathroom, all of the Yakuza show up. And one of them, I love it's

ComicChams:

a little quick moment, but one of them tries to punch Wolverine

ComicChams:

in the face, and they are instantly because it's just

ComicChams:

straight metal, and you actually even hear the bang. And then

ComicChams:

that's my favorite part. That was that's fun, like little

ComicChams:

things like that. But in the middle of fight, Wolverine

ComicChams:

actually accidentally slashes open the doors, sending them all

ComicChams:

flying to the top of the bullet train, which is probably one of

ComicChams:

the most hype action sequences in X Men history. Yeah, and

ComicChams:

gotta say, the CGI is already much better than the first film.

ComicChams:

You know, we had a lot of cries about the fact that it looked

ComicChams:

like Wolverine was holding pieces of paper between his

ComicChams:

fingers. This is not the case. They finally got it together.

ComicChams:

The crazy thing about this too, is that you're seeing like the

ComicChams:

most dangerous, the dangers of subway surfing and so here on

ComicChams:

the MTA platform all the time, and it's because Wolverine is

ComicChams:

just trying to navigate this super fast, 200 something mile

ComicChams:

per hour train, trying to hold himself down to make sure that

ComicChams:

he can get to the next person he has to take out at the same time

ComicChams:

these Yakuza members who unsure if they have any mutant

ComicChams:

abilities. But for the sake of the movie, we're going to say no

ComicChams:

surviving just by like stabbing into the bullet train, which

ComicChams:

makes me question, like, how strong are their stabs? Or how

ComicChams:

weak is this bullet train material? I would be worried

ComicChams:

about the integrity of this. This train moving as fast, but

ComicChams:

Logan is able to trick one into jumping and hitting a billboard.

ComicChams:

And another one, he uses the momentum of the train to go

ComicChams:

flying into with his claws. So great sequence. After that, he

ComicChams:

comes back, still bloody and injured. And that's when Mariko

ComicChams:

is like, okay, we can hide. So they get a room at a love hotel,

ComicChams:

a mission to Mars, themed room, um, and since it's a love hotel,

ComicChams:

there's only one bed. When Marie glass like, where are you gonna

ComicChams:

sleep? And he's like, I'm not. And then I was like, okay, you

ComicChams:

know, being chivalrous, but he didn't have to go and stand in

ComicChams:

the rain all night, though, yeah, like, he's in a 90s r&b.

ComicChams:

Wolverine loves you. Be a chorus. Everybody's snapping,

ComicChams:

let it fall, um, and it's really a bad idea, because he starts

ComicChams:

hallucinating a very wet gene, um, and you know, gene is also

ComicChams:

like, Yo, why are you doing this? Why are you trying to be a

ComicChams:

hero again? And he's like, honestly, bro, I don't know. And

ComicChams:

he passes out from probably hypothermia, so when he wakes

ComicChams:

up, he's being treated by a doctor. We do see that the

ComicChams:

person who runs the love hotel is there long Marco, and we find

ComicChams:

that that the doctor is actually the love hotel manager's son who

ComicChams:

is a veterinarian. Well, a student, not a not full vet. So

ComicChams:

there's some quick fun about the fact that, like, obviously,

ComicChams:

Logan was under so his like, involuntary reflexes were

ComicChams:

operating. Unfortunately, the vet student was clawed a few

ComicChams:

times, but he seems to be fine. This is when Logan starts

ComicChams:

questioning what's going on in visibilities, because he's like,

ComicChams:

I can't regenerate. I don't understand what's going on. And

ComicChams:

we do get a sense of who might have been the cause of all this.

ComicChams:

Where we hop back over to Dr Green, who seems to be running

ComicChams:

things, is because she meets back up with our our Hawkeye

ComicChams:

here, our Archer, and she's telling him that, like, listen,

ComicChams:

we have to follow along with the plan. I you know, if you don't,

ComicChams:

then you're just in our way. And it's revealed that his name is

ComicChams:

Harada. It also in the earlier scene too. It did seem like

ComicChams:

Harada does have some kind of connection to Marco, because he

ComicChams:

did kind of like pledge his life to protecting her, and in their

ComicChams:

conversation, she does reveal that she did something to to

ComicChams:

hinder or suppress Logan's mutant abilities. So this is

ComicChams:

going to be the best time to to try to take him down, because

ComicChams:

the further along it. Goes the there's a possibility, either he

ComicChams:

there's some time that he probably won't be able to do

ComicChams:

what their plans are. But right now, this seems to be the thing.

ComicChams:

And we hop back over to Marco and Logan, who Logan not all

ComicChams:

patched up. They decide to finally go to the safe house

ComicChams:

that Marco was intending to go to. And this is when we learn

ComicChams:

basically what that connection is with between Marco and

ComicChams:

Harada. First of all, I want to say the dinner that Marco was

ComicChams:

making looked sick. I wanted all of that. Whatever she was making

ComicChams:

in that pot looked good. But this is where Marco drops a lot

ComicChams:

of really important information that she was going to get

ComicChams:

married to Harada at one point when they were 15, but she

ComicChams:

eventually got stuck in an arranged marriage with the

ComicChams:

politician from earlier She also revealed that the reason why she

ComicChams:

was so depressed and willing to Just end it all was that because

ComicChams:

her grandfather, before passing announced that his company and

ComicChams:

all its assets would pass over his son and to his

ComicChams:

granddaughter. So the pressure of possibly running this tech

ComicChams:

Empire, which we only see on the outsides and not like what they

ComicChams:

actually do, I don't know. They probably made the bed. They

ComicChams:

probably made that bed. They at least made the bed. So the

ComicChams:

pressure of installing those beds across Japan was too much,

ComicChams:

and so that's kind of that's why her father was so mad. That's

ComicChams:

why she was unable to really handle the pressure. It's really

ComicChams:

at this point we realize that we don't know what Mariko wants out

ComicChams:

of life at all, like, what are her hopes and dreams like? So

ComicChams:

far, it's been kind of like, I'm sad my grandfather, grandfather

ComicChams:

died. I'm sad I'm getting his company. I don't want to die

ComicChams:

from Yakuza. Actually, I kind of do um, because I'm not wanting

ComicChams:

Logan to come so we really don't know. Even though we're getting

ComicChams:

all this information, we're not really learning that much more

ComicChams:

about her. Specifically, we're just learning her relationship

ComicChams:

to other people in the plot um and this scene, pretty much,

ComicChams:

after these revelations are dropped, we cut to Logan, who,

ComicChams:

um, cuts himself shaving. And you know, I know this is

ComicChams:

supposed to be like, your his healing factor's gone, but I'm

ComicChams:

also thinking like, bro, you need to shave a little bit more

ComicChams:

gently. Like, if you're, if you're bleeding like that every

ComicChams:

time you shave, bro, like, what the hell? What are you doing?

ComicChams:

Bro? Today's unofficial sponsor is Gillette skin guard. They can

ComicChams:

sponsor us. I would let Gillette call us, yeah, and in the middle

ComicChams:

of everything, they find out the tree fell in the middle of the

ComicChams:

road. But luckily, Wolverine was the lumberjack, and even though

ComicChams:

he doesn't remember it, I don't think, anyway, I had to look

ComicChams:

this up. I think, I think it was said that after x2 gene, either

ComicChams:

after x2 or during x3 gene, did kind of bring back some

ComicChams:

memories. Or when he was in the Weapon X facility, some memories

ComicChams:

came back to him, unsure, like, how much or what so possibly

ComicChams:

there. I mean, it also could just be that, like, Logan was

ComicChams:

just like, listen this, this is tree and AX. I'm Verdi man. I do

ComicChams:

this.

ComicChams:

So as he's cutting through this tree, and he's getting like this

ComicChams:

love and attention from the people all around him. He's it

ComicChams:

almost seems like he's finding peace being with Marco in this

ComicChams:

location, even though they know that, like there's this danger

ComicChams:

that's like looming overhead. So they decide to go for a walk,

ComicChams:

because Logan, somehow they again implying that his powers

ComicChams:

are fading. He's feeling tired, so when he looks up, he notices

ComicChams:

something very familiar, as he sees the mountain range where he

ComicChams:

was kept in captivity when he first saved YASHIDA. So we get a

ComicChams:

flashback here. Now, when a little call back to when Yukio

ComicChams:

kind of showed Logan. The reason why she was with him was she

ComicChams:

showed him a sword. And here we get the backstory of it, where

ComicChams:

Logan and Yoshida were in this well, they were talking with one

ComicChams:

another. Again, the chance to learn each other's life, and

ComicChams:

because Logan has saved his and they felt comfortable enough

ComicChams:

about trying to see if it was safe for them to go outside.

ComicChams:

YASHIDA offered him his family's blade. That's this Katana. And

ComicChams:

Logan said, Nope, I don't want it. You keep it. Hold on to it

ComicChams:

for me, I'll come back and pick it up some other time. Yeah,

ComicChams:

and. He you brought up something that I'm now realizing. How does

ComicChams:

he remember this? Yeah, this is why. This is one of my biggest

ComicChams:

issues with this film. The continuity is it's well, because

ComicChams:

the species is, yeah, the timeline is spaghetti, because

ComicChams:

the events of x, men, origins, Wolverine. Remember. This is

ComicChams:

which we will remind everyone. This is a sequel to they have to

ComicChams:

take place after Vietnam, the earliest they have to take place

ComicChams:

after Vietnam. So he lose at the end of that movie. He loses his

ComicChams:

memories of everything prior to Vietnam, but he remembers

ComicChams:

everything that happened with Yoshida specifically, like,

ComicChams:

yeah, all these years later. Ah, gripe about this. He was still

ComicChams:

should have been with Saber Tooth at this time. Saber Tooth

ComicChams:

wasn't gonna help him at all. I was willing to forgive that.

ComicChams:

Like, maybe at some point in the war, they got separated, and you

ComicChams:

know, he was just a POW in this occasion that I was like, I'm,

ComicChams:

I'm willing to let that part slide. But the fact that he can

ComicChams:

remember any of this, I'm, I'm a little, a little a lot disturbed

ComicChams:

by that, um, but speaking of things from Origins, I don't

ComicChams:

like we while after sleeping with Mariko, that happens,

ComicChams:

Mariko tells a story which is basically the Japanese version

ComicChams:

of the Wolverine story that Kayla told, and origins i The

ComicChams:

movie stops to do this story again and again, it doesn't

ComicChams:

really give us any new information. It doesn't really

ComicChams:

advance the story that much and but it does put Logan at an ease

ComicChams:

where he finally admits that all the nightmares he's having

ComicChams:

because she kept have hearing him have nightmares, um, he

ComicChams:

says, well, the gene I keep talking about, well, I killed

ComicChams:

her, and Marco's like all right, and just continues to sleep in

ComicChams:

the bed with him, no follow up. I know you haven't had the best

ComicChams:

partners, but Lady, that's that's not the good response to

ComicChams:

that. When someone tells you is yourself. Girl, choose yourself.

ComicChams:

Use ask for a little bit of context to that. Like, I

ComicChams:

appreciate that you trust, take him on his word that it was

ComicChams:

like, not a bad situation, but no follow up questions. Also, I

ComicChams:

did find it crazy too, that like immediately after admitting that

ComicChams:

he killed Jean to her, he also said, I also killed my humanity

ComicChams:

with it. And I was like, I'm sorry. What? We're not being in

ComicChams:

the same house. No more. Please, please exit or please call me an

ComicChams:

Uber these are not green flags. They're hardly even beige. I is

ComicChams:

so now back at the Ishida compound, we see hukio wakes up

ComicChams:

in fear, and she just says the word Logan. This is assuming,

ComicChams:

while it does seem random, we do know it probably connects with

ComicChams:

her ability to be able to see the death of people. So that

ComicChams:

doesn't matter, because the next morning, we wake up with Logan,

ComicChams:

who hears the screams of Marco. She's being taken by these

ComicChams:

accuser guys. She's shoved into a car. Logan gets shot in the

ComicChams:

leg. He's unable to catch her in time, because, again, he was

ComicChams:

shot in the leg, but he is able to grab someone, and that one

ComicChams:

person, he's like, he's trying to get them to talk. And they're

ComicChams:

like, I'm not snitching. Not going to do nothing about that.

ComicChams:

So Logan decides, because his mask in the comics looks like

ComicChams:

two Batman kissing, he's like, I'm gonna use some Batman

ComicChams:

tactics. And he soon finds out everything, because Yukio, who

ComicChams:

just I'm glad that she's on the good side, because it was like

ComicChams:

she immediately knew where he was going to be. She drives

ComicChams:

over, she sees Logan walking up, and she's he's just like, I need

ComicChams:

to go find noburu, because one of the questions that he asked

ComicChams:

this person is, Who hired you? So now that this has happened,

ComicChams:

they drive over to noborough's place, wherever he's at, Yukio

ComicChams:

shares the dream that she had of Logan dying. Yes, this is the

ComicChams:

oft repeated prophecy everyone in Logan is like, when you watch

ComicChams:

Logan, you're like, Oh, my God, she predicted it, because she

ComicChams:

says that Logan will die with holding his own heart in his

ComicChams:

hand. And I'm like, I'm sorry to ruin it for everybody, but that

ComicChams:

line goes on a little bit longer, and it says, holding

ComicChams:

your own heart in your hand, and it's not beating. So

ComicChams:

unfortunately. If she had stopped a little bit earlier,

ComicChams:

this would have been a perfect prophecy, but, I mean, x 23

ComicChams:

wasn't dead, so this prophecy doesn't work. I'm sorry, guys,

ComicChams:

I'm sorry to ruin that for you, but there's a maybe there's a

ComicChams:

reason we forgot the exact events. So he breaks into nobus

ComicChams:

hotel room. He's partying with some some models, and after some

ComicChams:

more interrogation, the Nobu reveals that I okay. So he

ComicChams:

reveals that YASHIDA was trying to save his own life, and in

ComicChams:

doing so, he nearly went bankrupt again. There is

ComicChams:

absolutely no indication of this before hand that the company is

ComicChams:

in any kind of financial trouble, but let's take his word

ComicChams:

for it, he nearly went bankrupt. So Shingen, who's about to

ComicChams:

inherit the company, it finds out that his daughter is gonna

ComicChams:

get it instead of him, so he arranges for the Yakuza to kill

ComicChams:

his daughter so that he gets the company automatically. Now, why

ComicChams:

would Shingen if he knows the company is in tons of debt. Why

ComicChams:

is he so eager to inherit it? Wouldn't he have more incentive

ComicChams:

to, like, sell his shares, get out beforehand? Wouldn't he want

ComicChams:

his daughter to take it so he could, like, take the shares and

ComicChams:

then, like, later, buy back the company at a lower market value,

ComicChams:

and then, like ideal, this is an ideal situation for him to just

ComicChams:

not do anything. Why would he arrange for the Yakuza to kill

ComicChams:

his daughter to inherit a company that is on the verge of

ComicChams:

collapse? Anyway, this makes no sense to me. Um, and, but again,

ComicChams:

we're not going to focus too much on the finer details,

ComicChams:

because Logan is so upset with all this news that he throws the

ComicChams:

nabaru out of the window, where he lands in a pool. And, you

ComicChams:

know, there's a cute exchange where, um, Yukio is like, How'd

ComicChams:

you know there was a pool there? And Logan goes, I don't implying

ComicChams:

that that man's gonna be fine. No, that man is dead. I'm sorry

ComicChams:

to tell you guys, but the the the fall from that height into a

ComicChams:

pool of water is like hitting cement. That man is dead. Yeah,

ComicChams:

yeah. I will say though, I think, I think I just because I

ComicChams:

gravitate towards these, like, nonsensical action movies, tough

ComicChams:

guy roles that kind of do things like this. I really enjoy this

ComicChams:

scene. Oh no, it's funny, because it's at one point where

ComicChams:

he tells him, it's like, you have 10 words to tell me why you

ComicChams:

want your fiance dead. And he starts rambling. Tries to give

ComicChams:

us, like, What are you talking about in the eight thing? So he

ComicChams:

punches him, and then Logan turns to Yukio. Was like, how

ComicChams:

many words was that? And she was like, nine. And he's like, we

ComicChams:

only got one word left. It was like, Thank you, Logan. We can

ComicChams:

count. And he just says, Shingon.

ComicChams:

Yeah, it is a very convoluted plan. And I agree, I don't

ComicChams:

understand why Shingon didn't just sell the company like I I

ComicChams:

know, like, ultimately the answer is probably going to be

ComicChams:

some honor. Like, I'm as soon as I heard that plan, I was just

ComicChams:

like, obviously, this is like, that Zuko mentality of just

ComicChams:

like, honor is really only associated with, like, how my

ComicChams:

family has put it onto me, and now you could be honorful and

ComicChams:

have a lot of money by selling your father's company, who

ComicChams:

basically bankrupt it, and then you try to hide everything. So

ComicChams:

it's like, this is even more of incentive try to sell the

ComicChams:

company that you were, that you could, there's like a paper

ComicChams:

trail of you trying to hide the fact that embezzlement was going

ComicChams:

on. Like you could literally get out of this scot free. So I

ComicChams:

don't understand why it's a very convoluted plan. It's still a

ComicChams:

better plan, though, than Justice League Gods and

ComicChams:

Monsters. I will admit that. Yeah, this one, this plan is

ComicChams:

just stupid. It's not that convoluted. Yeah, it only takes

ComicChams:

like five seconds to do. But now we, as this has happened, we see

ComicChams:

that Marco is brought by the Yakuza to her father, who starts

ComicChams:

sharing, for in a random tangent about how he studied biology to

ComicChams:

learn about mutations and all this stuff. If I there's no real

ComicChams:

explanation as to why it could just seem to be more so like

ComicChams:

daddy issues. Dad was in love mutants. I was not one. Let me

ComicChams:

try to see what I could do there. I felt like there was way

ComicChams:

more they could have expanded on that question. Quick question

ComicChams:

for you, sorry. Um yeah. Why is she alive? Huh? Jack. Was not

ComicChams:

his goal this entire time to kill her. Why is she alive right

ComicChams:

now? Huh? Damn. Um, well, looks like I'm now like Wolverine in

ComicChams:

the at the end of the Logan movie, I've I've been stumped.

ComicChams:

Um, nice. I have no idea why she's still alive if the plan is

ComicChams:

to kill her before the reading of the will so that she doesn't

ComicChams:

get everything See, this is just villains wanting to put share

ComicChams:

out their plans. Is stupid, especially because something

ComicChams:

that gets randomly referenced, like literally, you blink and

ComicChams:

you will miss this. You, you walk you, you stand up and you

ComicChams:

will miss this in this movie. Um, they do share that there is

ComicChams:

a ninja clan called the hand, unrelated to Ninja Turtles or

ComicChams:

Jackie Chan Avengers, because this is this. This was comic

ComicChams:

accurate. They they are supposed to be the people who are in

ComicChams:

charge of protecting the YASHIDA family or Yoshida clan for for

ComicChams:

generations, and it seems that prior to his death, this is

ComicChams:

true, the Yoshida, Mr. YASHIDA, was able to put in place this

ComicChams:

protection. So as Shingen and Marco are having this

ComicChams:

conversation of why she's good, why he's going to kill her, but

ComicChams:

she's not dead yet, we see the we see the whole place get

ComicChams:

overrun, not only by the ninja clan, but it's revealed that

ComicChams:

Harada and Dr crane, sorry, Dr Green, who is going by the name

ComicChams:

Viper for comic wise, but also randomly said at the very end of

ComicChams:

this film, for some reason, they are leading the troops here. And

ComicChams:

at this point we see that Dr green takes a weapon, poisons

ComicChams:

it, and stabs shingan with it, assuming now that he's dead,

ComicChams:

Logan and Yukio arrive at the place, and they find a note

ComicChams:

telling them to meet them at yashidas birthplace. I think

ComicChams:

it's like or where the company, the larger company is actually

ComicChams:

held like the facility itself. So this is another random moment

ComicChams:

that if you blink in this film, you will miss it. But in an

ComicChams:

earlier scene, when Logan first met up again, was reunited with

ComicChams:

Mr. YASHIDA, he sees these like creatures floating around in

ComicChams:

some kind of like ooze of some sort. And when he looks at that

ComicChams:

same container now that he's back, he doesn't see anything in

ComicChams:

the container. So he hops onto the bed that everybody wants in

ComicChams:

their dreams right now, and he gets the X ray scan to reveal

ComicChams:

that there is a creature, one of those creatures inside him. So

ComicChams:

I'm I'm just going to assume, because it's never explicitly

ComicChams:

said it all throughout the rest of this film, that Dr green

ComicChams:

somehow put the creature inside him to affect his healing

ComicChams:

abilities, maybe by shooting it through her mouth when they were

ComicChams:

kissing. I assume that was a delivery system. I am not sold

ComicChams:

in the slightest that he would know to look inside of his body

ComicChams:

to find a parasite on his heart. I'm not. I'm I don't track how

ComicChams:

that was, how he even got that idea in the first place, because

ComicChams:

it doesn't make any sense to just to check that. Like, unless

ComicChams:

he did, he didn't do any other test. He just was like, Oh, let

ComicChams:

me just check my body right now to see if it's in this like, it

ComicChams:

could have been digested. It could have been in your

ComicChams:

bloodstream. It could have been, yeah, it could have been, like,

ComicChams:

molecule size, like, I don't understand how, like, he knew,

ComicChams:

and it was like, just time to check. Like, it would have made

ComicChams:

more sense if it was like throughout the movie, not only

ComicChams:

was he, like, feeling this pain, but he was like, from getting

ComicChams:

hurt all the time and his abilities not coming back up,

ComicChams:

but also feeling like something's moving around him.

ComicChams:

Or even, let that be the reason why he was seeing gene like,

ComicChams:

like, yeah, something. It would have even been simpler to just

ComicChams:

have a line at the beginning of the movie where it's like, Yo,

ComicChams:

this bed, by the way, this bed can diagnose anything like,

ComicChams:

like, one line. And then later he comes in, he's like, Well,

ComicChams:

before we go, which he just does this again. He checks himself

ComicChams:

out impromptu, of nothing. It wasn't like, motivated by his

ComicChams:

desire to save Mariko. It's like, implied. But I it would

ComicChams:

have been the cleaner, I think, to just say, Oh, this back. Can

ComicChams:

scan anything well before I go, let me see if there's something

ComicChams:

wrong. And then he can find the heart parasite. And then, you

ComicChams:

know, bing, bang, boom. But instead, he just figures it out.

ComicChams:

So at this point he sees the parasite, his heart. He decides

ComicChams:

to do a little self surgery. Now I'm going to admit I'm. The

ComicChams:

scene's pretty cool. He's doing surgery on himself with his

ComicChams:

claws. At the same time, Shingon comes back with the sword and

ComicChams:

randomly attacks. So Yukio has to defend Wolverine while he's

ComicChams:

doing the surgery, which I think is really fun. The the creative,

ComicChams:

it's really creative choreography in the room that

ComicChams:

they're operating in, and there's even a point where he

ComicChams:

can't see the operation because they move things around. So, you

ComicChams:

know, it's pretty, pretty fun, except one thing I can't

ComicChams:

forgive. So what Logan does is he pulls out the parasite

ComicChams:

attached to his heart. He's holding the parasite in his

ComicChams:

hand, and he has goes into cardiac arrest and temporarily

ComicChams:

dies. That's not his heart in his hand, though. That's a

ComicChams:

parasite in his hand. He didn't so yukio's whole prediction is,

ComicChams:

was wrong, though, right, like top to bottom was like, we can't

ComicChams:

trust some of your inabilities. Yeah, unreliable. So um, but he

ComicChams:

does recover to jump into battle with Shingon, which this is the

ComicChams:

section I of of succession of scenes I like to call cool, but

ComicChams:

pointless, because Shingon just a regular dude who's poisoned

ComicChams:

and has a sword against Wolverine. There's really This

ComicChams:

conclusion is foregone. And what they try to do to make this

ComicChams:

scene interesting is the this is the thing that made me the most

ComicChams:

upset in this movie. I have to say, they try to imply that the

ComicChams:

reason Wolverine and Schengen are fighting is because

ComicChams:

Wolverine needs information. He asked, where's Mariko? Bitch?

ComicChams:

You already know you have a poster that says where to go.

ComicChams:

You learn this and minutes ago in movie time, why are you

ComicChams:

asking him? What did no one look at these two scenes in the

ComicChams:

editing room and go like, Oh, we should cut one of these, because

ComicChams:

he already has the information. He needs the fight, but the

ComicChams:

information is pointless. You already have it, and he doesn't,

ComicChams:

can't do anything to you. Like, it would have been more

ComicChams:

interesting if you just kept trying. To Logan was like, I'm

ComicChams:

gonna go from the start, yeah, and he just has to kill him just

ComicChams:

to but, like, this fight is pointless. And again, it's cool,

ComicChams:

claws against sword. I'm not gonna lie. I like seeing that as

ComicChams:

an action person, but as a story person, we could have skipped

ComicChams:

this, especially in a two hour movie. We could have skipped

ComicChams:

this, especially

ComicChams:

because there's no additional dialog that's given except for

ComicChams:

like, the where is she like, this would have been the perfect

ComicChams:

moment to kind of dive into the, you know, at this point we know

ComicChams:

that Shengen is a jerk, but we never really got an explanation

ComicChams:

as to why. Like, he he shares like, Oh, my father was always

ComicChams:

fascinated by you. Again, we don't know to what extent that

ComicChams:

fascination was. This would have been the perfect moment to be

ComicChams:

like, you know, I spent so much time trying to honor my father

ComicChams:

reveal the thing about like, you know, trying to or even like,

ComicChams:

hype up the thing about like, you know, I was the one that

ComicChams:

tried to save the company after he embezzled so much of the

ComicChams:

money, trying to extend his life. And this is how he decides

ComicChams:

to treat me, you know, I've never been favored by him. And

ComicChams:

even like, you know, they spent so much time trying to throw

ComicChams:

Gaijin into the into the script of this film, like this have

ComicChams:

been the perfect time, because it's like, this is now treated

ComicChams:

less from the way that this movie has been played out. It's

ComicChams:

treated less of like mutant relations that this would have

ComicChams:

been the perfect moment to just be like, Let's go full true

ComicChams:

outsiders appreciation. Because it's like, here it was that his

ComicChams:

father had always loved or always talked about Logan, maybe

ComicChams:

was fascinated by him, and then literally, his daughter

ComicChams:

experienced the same thing. So it was like, that would have

ComicChams:

been a perfect moment to be like, I'm upset because my

ComicChams:

father never really honored his family, even though I've been

ComicChams:

trying to get his appreciation all my life, and even now after

ComicChams:

his death, I still don't get it, because of people like you and

ComicChams:

Yukio who are stepping in, literally, that could have been

ComicChams:

the fight and then as Logan even, because it still would

ComicChams:

have worked the way that the sequence of events in the film.

ComicChams:

Because when Logan decides I'm gonna let you live, because I

ComicChams:

realized that my beef isn't with you. So as he walks away,

ComicChams:

Shingen does try to attack, and unfortunately, Logan has to pull

ComicChams:

the the claws of his triggers and just snicked him to death.

ComicChams:

And that would have been great, because it'd been like, here it

ComicChams:

was. Do you have this person who was misguided this entire time

ComicChams:

shares his anger about his situation, you still get the

ComicChams:

same result that you had in the film. It's right there. But we

ComicChams:

gotta move on. Yeah, I just realized I did my own Yeah. No,

ComicChams:

no, it's fine. RT alteration. There, yeah, for that section,

ComicChams:

no, it's I, it's what it is. So this now, now, this is where

ComicChams:

things kind of get started to get really silly for the movie,

ComicChams:

we cut to Mariko, who was, you know, in been kidnapped. In a

ComicChams:

scene, Harada and Viper the DR green reveal that they've been

ComicChams:

working together the whole time to Mariko. So Dr green poisons

ComicChams:

Mariko, right, knocks her out, takes her to sleep. The next

ComicChams:

scene, she wakes up in another part of the facility, and she

ComicChams:

does the same thing. Why did these what was the point of

ComicChams:

those two scenes? Why couldn't you just cut to the scene where

ComicChams:

she wakes up at the facility? There was absolutely no reason

ComicChams:

for her to do that. It's like when you try to make the the

ComicChams:

word limit on your essay, like exactly, just stretching out,

ComicChams:

can't, cannot. So Wolverine shows up around a compound. He

ComicChams:

knows it's probably a trap. Harada says, you know,

ComicChams:

basically, come with us. You're not getting Mariko. And

ComicChams:

Wolverine drops an F bomb right here. It's like, Go, f yourself.

ComicChams:

Pretty boy, even though, have they interacted before this

ComicChams:

point at all, only from a distance, and pretty sure, one

ComicChams:

of the times was when Harada shot someone to either save

ComicChams:

Logan or he missed and he was supposed to shoot Logan. We

ComicChams:

don't know. We really don't know who, what side they're on. So,

ComicChams:

yeah, this is the first time they've interacted. And really

ComicChams:

the main connection to their interactions, like they both

ComicChams:

want to save Mariko and Logan just ends up being the new

ComicChams:

boyfriend. That is basically what this is treated as, yeah.

ComicChams:

So he runs forward. He's fighting a bunch of ninjas.

ComicChams:

Ninjas are shooting arrows with strings in him. He ends up

ComicChams:

looking like a pin cushion, which, again, this is a cool,

ComicChams:

cool imagery of Logan loaded up with arrows. They even hit him

ComicChams:

with the poison arrow. So it is cool. I'm going to say this is

ComicChams:

cool, but point full, because it's full points, all the arrows

ComicChams:

are sharp pointy. So this scene is great. Unfortunately, again,

ComicChams:

I'm distracted by in the very next scene after Wolverine is

ComicChams:

shot with all those arrows and captured, Yukio pulls up to the

ComicChams:

facility with no resistance, absolutely none. There were

ComicChams:

about 5000 ninjas. Logan doesn't kill many of them. And in fact,

ComicChams:

after this point, the ninjas go away completely for I guess they

ComicChams:

just went to another mission. Because, yeah, don't come back.

ComicChams:

They weren't killed. They just don't come back at all for the

ComicChams:

rest of this movie. Why? This is also a pretty large facility

ComicChams:

with a lot of mechanical stuff to be operating. So no one's no

ComicChams:

one. No one gets in our way at all. She just walks up to them

ComicChams:

and we cut to Wolverine in some binding metal bindings, where

ComicChams:

Viper gives really clunky exposition of stuff we already

ComicChams:

understand at this point that she poisoned Wolverine to

ComicChams:

suppress his healing factor for the point of capturing him,

ComicChams:

sure, okay, for A good majority of the film, yeah, we figured,

ComicChams:

um, so at this point, um Harada also talks to mararico and is

ComicChams:

trying to rekindle their romance that we just heard about off

ComicChams:

screen. We have never seen these two interact at this point

ComicChams:

either. Um and he goes for a kiss, which is absolutely the

ComicChams:

wrong time. And after she rejects him and runs away,

ComicChams:

Harada immediately has a change of heart and shoots Viper

ComicChams:

immediately. Oh, my God, I will say though I just because it's,

ComicChams:

uh, just because it's a reference. I did appreciate

ComicChams:

Marco using the baby knife, um, to just stab the Arata, but,

ComicChams:

like, not, not even enough to, like, really distract them. It's

ComicChams:

like, literally, like, getting poked by a by a thumbtack.

ComicChams:

Really, like, that was a much pressure. It was into it. But

ComicChams:

yeah, you're right. It is weird that he immediately starts to go

ComicChams:

after Viper, which he shoots her with one of the previously

ComicChams:

poisoned arrows that he created, which I which also she states to

ComicChams:

Logan that she's actually immune to most, if not all, um poison.

ComicChams:

So it's like it's wild that the one that she's alert, the one

ComicChams:

thing that she can't, she can't work against, is. The one thing

ComicChams:

that they have in the facility, it's like, why is that even

ComicChams:

there? Wolverine and Marco tried to escape, but they get

ComicChams:

cornered, and they're in the split up. We also see that the

ComicChams:

thing, the big plan of this whole thing, which was alluded

ComicChams:

to in one random scene. Again, if you blink you missed it,

ComicChams:

Yukio sees like some blueprints for a suit of armor, which was

ComicChams:

also in another blink. If you missed it, you learn about the

ComicChams:

silver samurai at the funeral of Mr. YASHIDA. We see now that

ComicChams:

this silver Samurai is sitting next to was sitting next to

ComicChams:

Logan. It's now active. It looks like a giant free template for

ComicChams:

the TMNT shredder. And this is now this whole giant structure

ComicChams:

is chasing after them. It's fighting against them. It's

ComicChams:

trying to kill them, if anything. And unfortunately,

ComicChams:

everything they try to do doesn't work. We learned also

ComicChams:

that the armor is coded in adamantium, so it's like,

ComicChams:

literally, now it's like Wolverines, which, in the movie

ComicChams:

description of this movie calls it Wolverine's ultimate nemesis.

ComicChams:

And I'm just like, that's a bit of a stretch. So as they're

ComicChams:

fighting, unfortunately, though, somehow the silver Samurai is

ComicChams:

able to heat up its adamantium blade and uses it as an

ComicChams:

opportunity to cut directly through Logan's claws. Yes,

ComicChams:

which I thought, again, cool, cool looking as Logan is

ComicChams:

struggling to kind of turn the tables. Viper randomly gets a

ComicChams:

gruesome hanging Dev. I think, honestly, this is one of the

ComicChams:

most gruesome deaths in an X Men movie. Like, hangs her, yeah,

ComicChams:

it's like, it's like, the end of Tarzan. Yeah, that they

ComicChams:

immediately thought of that, and I was like, damn. Like that.

ComicChams:

That's a triggering death. Yeah. That was like, Okay, wow. Um, so

ComicChams:

now also, Harada turns on the silver samurai. He has a change

ComicChams:

of heart again and is immediately killed. Thanks for

ComicChams:

coming. Um, all the ninjas stay out of this um, so now, all

ComicChams:

right, so here's where the silver samurai corners Wolverine

ComicChams:

um,

ComicChams:

and starts extracting Wolverine's DNA with these

ComicChams:

drills and starts taking Wolverine's like genetic

ComicChams:

material out through his claws. Okay, okay, so here he starts

ComicChams:

sucking out the metal of from Wolverine's skull, and it is

ComicChams:

implied that sucking out the metal is giving the silver

ComicChams:

samurai the healing factor. How? It's not the metal that makes

ComicChams:

biology. I did not study biology in college. I'm gonna, I'm gonna

ComicChams:

excuse myself from this, this conjure. But the actual reveal

ComicChams:

here is that the person inside the silver samurai shoot is

ComicChams:

indeed Wolverine's old friend, YASHIDA. Before you see, YASHIDA

ComicChams:

planned on getting Wolverine's healing factor, and when

ComicChams:

Wolverine said, No, this adamantium suit he built

ComicChams:

strictly that, he said he built to keep him alive, but

ComicChams:

conveniently, it's in the shape of a samurai and has heated

ComicChams:

swords, you know, just in case to keep him alive. Um, so he,

ComicChams:

it's like, what are you trying to fight against, bro? Like

ComicChams:

you're not gonna meet the disease. It was like going to

ComicChams:

the supermarket picking up my eggs in the full on samurai

ComicChams:

soup. Made the man, the man team with the heated up. Clade, yeah.

ComicChams:

Um, but yeah. So that's what this plan to extract, forcefully

ComicChams:

take Wolverine's healing factor so Wolverine starts dying. But

ComicChams:

luckily, there's one thing the silver samurai didn't account

ComicChams:

for little knives, and those little knives are Logan's claws.

ComicChams:

This is the most. This was the weird this I got. I was not

ComicChams:

expecting this, because Marco is able to find a three of

ComicChams:

Wolverine's claws at the time from when they were previously

ComicChams:

cut off. They do get cut off. His other hand gets cut off

ComicChams:

again. Um, so Marco takes the three of them, but only uses

ComicChams:

two, one to stab it into the head of her grandfather. And

ComicChams:

this is at a point where he's like, still absorbing

ComicChams:

Wolverine's healing factor. So you see him actually becoming a

ComicChams:

younger man, and he turns to Marco. Tries to please with her,

ComicChams:

like, I'm your I'm your grandfather, that you recognize

ComicChams:

me. And she's like, No, my grandfather is dead. And then

ComicChams:

takes the other blade and stabs him in the neck, I assume, which

ComicChams:

makes me question if he was already stealing Wolverine's

ComicChams:

healing abilities. How did he die? I have that exact note. I

ComicChams:

have that exact note. How is this killing him? Because he's

ComicChams:

supposed to be healing, right? And it's like they try to have a

ComicChams:

cake and eat it too, like he's you see YASHIDA getting younger,

ComicChams:

and obviously, so he has some kind of healing factor in his

ComicChams:

body. Um, by taking it, but they also have the cake that until

ComicChams:

the transfer is completely complete, it doesn't save him

ComicChams:

from everything, which doesn't make any sense. It like, if

ComicChams:

you're if you're aging backwards, and that's how fast

ComicChams:

your body is healing, then a couple knives should not be an

ComicChams:

issue for you think, but it is, and for some reason, hurting him

ComicChams:

physically also interrupts the process of like The machine

ComicChams:

industry flew flew back into Wolverine, yes. Oh. My God. So

ComicChams:

with that, now that YASHIDA is either dead or dying, Logan

ComicChams:

says, Listen, I came back here to say goodbye to a friend,

ComicChams:

sayonara throws YASHIDA in the suit off of a cliff. Not gonna

ComicChams:

lie, I felt a little weird to say Sayonara, after they spent

ComicChams:

the majority of this movie trying to make references. And I

ComicChams:

was like, we could have literally gone with something

ComicChams:

other than Sayonara, which is just so feels a little weird to

ComicChams:

say, Yeah, and I'm not going to let this scene go, because

ComicChams:

somebody, some people, might skip past this, but I'm

ComicChams:

absolutely not skipping past this. Wolverine has another

ComicChams:

dream of gene I dream of Geneva gene, and she says, Logan, I'm

ComicChams:

all alone in the afterlife. Join me. This line implies one of two

ComicChams:

things, which I both love. One, that gene in the afterlife is

ComicChams:

like F. Afterlife is like F Cyclops. He's here, but I don't

ComicChams:

care. Or Logan, in his own mind, perceives gene as saying F

ComicChams:

Cyclops in the afterlife, because he's also dead right

ComicChams:

now. And I don't care. Either one I am 100% that had me dying

ComicChams:

when thinking about like, either possibility, psychologists are

ComicChams:

standing there like, Yo, what you for real, me and me after,

ComicChams:

like, what about chop liver? So after this dream sequence, we

ComicChams:

hard cut to a bright day, Logan is healed from his injuries, and

ComicChams:

it's time for him to leave Japan for absolutely no reason, no

ComicChams:

reason at all. He does have one last goodbye kiss with Mariko,

ComicChams:

um, he states that, you know, soldier needs to be about in the

ComicChams:

field. And this is when on the plane, Yukio is just like, Hey,

ComicChams:

um, you know, I'm gonna hang with you as your bodyguard.

ComicChams:

Where should we go next? He's like, it's all good. We'll just

ComicChams:

get up in the air. We'll figure it out from there. Our movie

ComicChams:

ends there. But of course, because this is 2000 superhero

ComicChams:

storytelling, we immediately get an after credit scene. And in

ComicChams:

this after credit scene, we see an ad in the airport for Trask

ComicChams:

industries. Trask is associated with the Sentinel project, so

ComicChams:

that becomes a bigger plot point in three years time movie take

ComicChams:

movie wise when, or chronological time wise, where

ComicChams:

we get introduced to Trask and days of features past story, and

ComicChams:

we see how it gets built up when Logan, who is ready to walk

ComicChams:

through the detector to Male detector, unsure how much

ComicChams:

Adamantium is in his body, because also in the fight, in

ComicChams:

his fight, he does pull out his bone claws, so unsure how much

ComicChams:

adamantium he still has. And as he's walking through, he notices

ComicChams:

that every metal object around him is going a little haywire,

ComicChams:

and he immediately recognizes that it has to be Magneto. So

ComicChams:

when he turns around, he comes face to face with Sir Ian

ComicChams:

McCullen, who's telling him that, like the world's in danger

ComicChams:

and we need to band together. This is what we've experienced.

ComicChams:

The third movie was not the last stand. This is it coming up

ComicChams:

right now, and Logan's like, why should. I trust you. I'm never

ComicChams:

going to follow you. And magnesite, well, because I got

ComicChams:

back up and pulling a Tokyo Drift through the frozen in time

ComicChams:

crowd, we see a man in a wheelchair. Yep, Charles is

ComicChams:

back. Why? Because this timeline is spaghetti. And he's like, Yo,

ComicChams:

some stuff's about to go down. I'm gonna need you. And that's

ComicChams:

it. Hard cut. We're done, all right. And with that now,

ComicChams:

because X Men movies tend to not wear clothing they're typical

ComicChams:

for superhero them. Would this movie? Do you think this movie

ComicChams:

should have gotten the cape, or should have gotten, or should

ComicChams:

they have gotten the classic Marvel, secret in hidden in

ComicChams:

disguise? Cap, there are no, there are no compromises in Cape

ComicChams:

or cap people, it's one or the other. There's there's no

ComicChams:

halfway. So I'm going to say this movie is cap. I came back.

ComicChams:

I was really excited to revisit it, because I I forgot it, you

ComicChams:

know, I thought maybe it got lost in the shuffle, but now I

ComicChams:

fully understand why it did. This movie's central problem is

ComicChams:

there are a lot of cool things and ideas here. There's a

ComicChams:

detective story, there's a romance, there's a war

ComicChams:

flashback, there's grappling with humanity and mortality, and

ComicChams:

it wants to do it all, and it could have, if they had just

ComicChams:

tried a little bit harder to make everything fit in cohesive

ComicChams:

ways, cut out characters. There's too many characters in

ComicChams:

this movie. A Harada is a the biggest problem in this movie of

ComicChams:

a character that's too much just his whole story with Mariko is

ComicChams:

given barely any room to grow. There's really no reason. If you

ComicChams:

cut him out of the movie, the events pretty much play out

ComicChams:

exactly the same, like Logan has a little less help with the

ComicChams:

Yakuza, but you could save money on parkour on top of building

ComicChams:

scenes. But yeah, this this movie, there's it just doesn't

ComicChams:

seem like there was really a goal of anything from Logan

ComicChams:

learn. And I'm immediately diving into an RTE alteration

ComicChams:

where I would start this movie with Logan in Japan already.

ComicChams:

He's already in Japan. You could do the same sequence with the

ComicChams:

bear and the hunters. It just takes place in Japan because

ComicChams:

after every the events of last stand. He wanted to get far away

ComicChams:

from the X Men as possible. So he goes to Japan, a place he

ComicChams:

knows he lives in the woods or like at a monastery. This is

ComicChams:

something the X Men animated series did, um, and this would

ComicChams:

also make sense of why he's having so many flashbacks to

ComicChams:

World War Two. Specifically, if he goes back to Japan, and he's

ComicChams:

in Japan at the beginning, then it's logically why he's thinking

ComicChams:

of that war specifically, and all these memories of YASHIDA

ComicChams:

while he's out there, he the again, the bear arrow sequence

ComicChams:

plays out the same just in Japan. Then Yukio finds him, and

ComicChams:

it's like, oh, ironic. I've been looking for you everywhere, but

ComicChams:

you were here the whole time. And then when he's brought to

ComicChams:

YASHIDA, his mission is, Ishida doesn't say. YASHIDA offers him

ComicChams:

this, I will make you mortal in three days if you protect my

ComicChams:

granddaughter for that long. So now we also have a connection of

ComicChams:

Logan has a mission, a reason to be there. Because, right in the

ComicChams:

movie, he's like after he denies YASHIDA, he could instantly just

ComicChams:

leave. But in this movie, if you say, I will give you the give

ComicChams:

you the mortality in exchange for protecting my granddaughter

ComicChams:

for three days, Logan's torn about it, because he just did it

ComicChams:

with Gene and failed. And then when he goes and saves Mariko

ComicChams:

right after, then it's like, Oh, damn it. Now I'm in it. Now I'm

ComicChams:

actually in it by accident. I can't help myself. And also, we

ComicChams:

throw in a quick scene where Dr green actually, like, preps him

ComicChams:

for the procedure, so that later on, when stuff goes wrong, Logan

ComicChams:

has a logical reason to suspect Dr green is the problem, instead

ComicChams:

of him just spontaneously covering coming out with it. Um,

ComicChams:

so again, this is just to streamline those movies. We cut

ComicChams:

Harada out completely. Um, and as just an added bonus, if we

ComicChams:

really want to bring Shingen in, have from the front we have

ComicChams:

yeshida say, Look, I don't trust my son with the business. I just

ComicChams:

signed over everything to Mariko. So that's set in stone.

ComicChams:

And if you want to add, instead of the Harada scenes, you can

ComicChams:

flesh out Shingen and like, why he would be a bad for the.

ComicChams:

Company make it so that Shingon needs his daughter's signature

ComicChams:

to transfer over the company. That's why he needs to keep her

ComicChams:

alive until she signs. And I think little changes like that

ComicChams:

to weld the movie together, cut out a little bit of the fat. I

ComicChams:

think we were on the right track. I don't mind the sober

ComicChams:

samurai twist. Honestly, I'm, I'm whatever about it, to be

ComicChams:

honest with you. But I do think if the movie starts with Ishida

ComicChams:

tricking Logan openly, like the whole pretense of of the

ComicChams:

protecting three days, maybe, like, he set that all up too.

ComicChams:

You know, he set it up like let it slip to his son, so his son

ComicChams:

would take extreme action and, and, you know, challenge Logan,

ComicChams:

whatever. But I think something to make the movie flow a little

ComicChams:

bit better, because at as it is, there's a lot of cool scenes in

ComicChams:

this movie, a lot of cool scenes. I just don't think the

ComicChams:

backbone is strong, as aunt adamantium here, and ultimately,

ComicChams:

for me, I think the movie becomes forgettable, because a

ComicChams:

lot of cool stuff happens, but just there's just no through

ComicChams:

line. The through line is just not strong enough. There are

ComicChams:

random 20 minute parts of this movie where they just talk, and

ComicChams:

I'm normally not against that, but in this movie just doesn't

ComicChams:

work. So that's my cat. Those are good reasons, especially

ComicChams:

because those are the same reasons and feelings that I had,

ComicChams:

which is why while if this movie came out in the 80s, it would've

ComicChams:

been a cape. It is ultimately a cap. For me. You know, there's a

ComicChams:

lot of great action sequences throughout, like the bullet

ComicChams:

train scene is amazing work, especially because you do feel

ComicChams:

the intensity of like, what the situation could turn into. I

ComicChams:

also really enjoyed the Yukio Shingen fights, even, like there

ComicChams:

was one particular move that she pulled out was just like, that

ComicChams:

is, that's how you that's how you fill them out in action

ComicChams:

sequence when you're using katanas or any kind of swords.

ComicChams:

Um, even just, like, visually seeing whatever, even though,

ComicChams:

like, you know, the stakes between Wolverine and Schengen

ComicChams:

aren't really that big of a deal because of the fact that it's

ComicChams:

like, Wolverine is not going to succumb to any of these wounds,

ComicChams:

just seeing the action that's taking place between Shingen

ComicChams:

using the Katana and then Wolverine uses claws, amazing.

ComicChams:

Um, there is just also that some of the imagery and

ComicChams:

cinematography was pretty cool. Like I did feel like, while, you

ComicChams:

know, we've seen stuff like Oppenheimer and other movies

ComicChams:

that have done this, like nuclear bombing sense, I think

ComicChams:

that, given the fact that this was like a movie now that's like

ComicChams:

11 years old, the way that they were able to handle the CGI of

ComicChams:

that bomb was pretty cool. So I'll give them that, because

ComicChams:

they did some I feel like they did some pretty okay with, like,

ComicChams:

set designs and landscape shots. Like it did feel like it was,

ComicChams:

from what I've seen at that time, what it felt like Japan,

ComicChams:

understanding what it felt like to be in Japan. I also

ComicChams:

appreciate the fact that X Men origins Wolverine's kind of

ComicChams:

chummy side, whereas, like, he can banter and bond with every

ComicChams:

single character wasn't in this movie at all. Like it was clear,

ComicChams:

like, if he didn't like somebody, he just didn't like

ComicChams:

them. There was no like, don't, don't get killed, not before I

ComicChams:

killed you. First kind of dialog, which I really, really

ComicChams:

appreciated. But ultimately, the thing that made this a cat for

ComicChams:

me is just, like, there's just so many continuity errors, um,

ComicChams:

and like, the flow of certain things, like the plan was too

ComicChams:

convoluted. Continuity wise, I did have an issue with the fact

ComicChams:

of like, the fact that the Nagasaki bombing would have

ComicChams:

taken place in 1945 well in advance of the Vietnam War. So

ComicChams:

again, I felt like Wolverine should have been with Saber

ComicChams:

Tooth if this is supposed to be a direct sequel to origins in

ComicChams:

some way. And you know, there just feels like something else.

ComicChams:

A lot of stuff that was happening in this movie didn't

ComicChams:

connect with what was supposed to be Wolverine story across

ComicChams:

this trilogy, it was more so like Wolverine story in

ComicChams:

connection to the X Men, the X Men films that we had. And this

ComicChams:

really, I don't really even really know when or how this is

ComicChams:

supposed to take place, because if you released it before X Men,

ComicChams:

days of futures past to us. That's supposed to be canon. So

ComicChams:

the events should have flown from Origins through the X Men

ComicChams:

movies to now, and it doesn't feel like it did, because it

ComicChams:

just feels like the fact that he just Yes, he left the X Men

ComicChams:

because of everything that happened in the last stand. But.

ComicChams:

Felt like a lot of this stuff just was like internal battles,

ComicChams:

which I can see, which I'll talk about in the comics. I could see

ComicChams:

them trying to pull that up, but it just doesn't make sense. So

ComicChams:

that's why I was just like, a lot of this just feels

ComicChams:

convoluted. A lot of this feels as if it's just like we made the

ComicChams:

Wolverine movie, because we know Hugh Jackman is the biggest

ComicChams:

character from the X Men movies, and we need to capitalize on

ComicChams:

that. And while it's a great film for action, it's just not

ComicChams:

really a great film. It's not it's a it's an okay film at

ComicChams:

best. So it's too hyped up. I feel I'm again, I felt the same

ComicChams:

way like watching it. I was going into knowing that we were

ComicChams:

gonna cover it. I was, like, very excited for it, because I I

ComicChams:

also completely forgotten that this film had existed, um, and I

ComicChams:

realized that I did go see this in theaters. I just don't

ComicChams:

remember. I didn't remember anything that happened in this

ComicChams:

film, because I was more hyped about the fact of what they were

ComicChams:

doing at the end with the post credit scene of like, bringing

ComicChams:

forward the idea of days of futures past. Also, other side

ComicChams:

note about that whole scene, where was Yukio? Yeah. I mean,

ComicChams:

this is one again, I'm grain of salt, and I'm being really

ComicChams:

generous that Yukio has implied to have died off screen because

ComicChams:

Days of Future, past takes place in the future, far in the

ComicChams:

future, after the Sentinels have kind of messed everything up. So

ComicChams:

I'm going to give them the benefit of doubt there. If

ComicChams:

you're asking why she wasn't in the airport after saying she'll

ComicChams:

follow Logan anywhere. Got nothing for you. Got absolutely

ComicChams:

nothing for you. I cannot answer that question except the fact

ComicChams:

that they shot that. Sorry, spoilers, but yeah, they shot

ComicChams:

that scene very late into the process, so they probably could

ComicChams:

not get the actress to return, because she was most likely busy

ComicChams:

with arrow at that point. That makes sense, all right. Well,

ComicChams:

speaking of other those, like behind the scenes, stuff,

ComicChams:

anything else, that was the reason why this is resulting in

ComicChams:

the cap for us, not

ComicChams:

too many small details, but we do know we have confirmation.

ComicChams:

The script was rewritten multiple times. And some of the

ComicChams:

things that I I just point out, things that I thought would have

ComicChams:

been cool to see, or at least interesting to see in this

ComicChams:

movie. One version had Mariko as the daughter of a crime lord,

ComicChams:

which would have been really interesting if Yoshida was a

ComicChams:

crime lord after he took his life and turned it into

ComicChams:

something corrupt that would have been cool and that you

ComicChams:

could have this parallel of like, maybe, what if Wolverine

ComicChams:

would have let him die, you know, then this villainous

ComicChams:

Empire wouldn't have been created to mirror what happened

ComicChams:

with Gene and like taking that decisive action did present

ComicChams:

something could have been interesting. Never mind that

ComicChams:

though um rogue was heavily featured in one version, but the

ComicChams:

writer admitted that there was no way to make it natural. All

ComicChams:

good. And Hugh Jackman personally promised the actor

ComicChams:

playing the blob, I just Oh, his name just slips me, but he was,

ComicChams:

he's a great character actor, but he promised that the blob

ComicChams:

was going to return in this movie as a sumo wrestler.

ComicChams:

Okay, it could have worked, but also, it would not work. Yeah, I

ComicChams:

think that would have been put it over the offensive territory.

ComicChams:

Kevin Durant, yeah. Kevin Durant, yeah, yeah, that's I was

ComicChams:

like, thinking I was just like, I know it's not Durant. It is

ComicChams:

Durant. Um, apparently they had a little bit of trouble filming

ComicChams:

in Japan, so some of the scenes were limited, and also rogue

ComicChams:

would have been powerless, I think, if we're going by the

ComicChams:

cannon, yeah, at this point. And last but not least, Guillermo

ComicChams:

del Toro, at one point, was circling directing this. But

ComicChams:

ultimately he was like, No thanks, wow. Guillermo in an

ComicChams:

excellent film would have been great. This was Yeah, to me,

ComicChams:

this would not have been the film. I would have chosen

ComicChams:

friends, yeah, um, yeah. New Mutants, gambles would have been

ComicChams:

great. Yeah, joke, but Yeah, way better than what it actually

ComicChams:

was. Oh yeah, giant bear. Maybe one day. Was it the same bear

ComicChams:

that that Logan killed? I think so we need to check up on that

ComicChams:

one day of a schematic we might revisit New Mutants. Because

ComicChams:

wow, oh wow. What a movie. What a film. One of the films of all

ComicChams:

time, sure that was a sequence of events that would put in

ComicChams:

front of a camera. Wow. Okay. No, I like that. I like it would

ComicChams:

have been really cool though to see that idea of what would have

ComicChams:

happened if Mariko was actually the daughter of a crime lord.

ComicChams:

That would have been interesting, especially because,

ComicChams:

as you said, it would be in the direct parallel to what Logan

ComicChams:

was dealing with with having to kill gene, which, honestly, this

ComicChams:

is a perfect segue into our comic book section for today.

ComicChams:

Oh, because this movie is based off of one of the first solo

ComicChams:

adventures with Wolverine having his self titled book. This is a

ComicChams:

part. This was adapted from a four part 1982 mini series

ComicChams:

written by Chris, Chris Claremont and art by Frank

ComicChams:

Miller. So already you're hearing like two goaded

ComicChams:

individuals when it comes to X Men and comic books on this side

ComicChams:

of the of the world. And this was the second limited series

ComicChams:

ever produced by Marvel. And the goal of this story was to really

ComicChams:

dive into Logan's character and his struggle of being the man

ComicChams:

versus being the animal, or, as this movie calls it, the kozuri.

ComicChams:

That's, yeah, that's actually never used in the comic. So

ComicChams:

quick plot breakdown. It actually opens up a lot like a

ComicChams:

movie, no Nagasaki bombing. We actually opened up immediately

ComicChams:

to the Canadian Rockies, where Wolverine has to go and find a

ComicChams:

bear that's been attacking people. He finds it battles it

ComicChams:

kills it. But he does come across that barbed wire, that

ComicChams:

barbed arrow, the poisoned one, and because of the way it's been

ComicChams:

made, he knows it's illegal, so he tracks down the hunter that's

ComicChams:

responsible that Hunter, he and the hunter get into a fight. The

ComicChams:

Hunter decides to turn himself in, and once Wolverine finishes

ComicChams:

that mission, he heads back to the X mansion and finds these

ComicChams:

letters from Marco that he originally sent a person he

ComicChams:

remembers and being in love with have all been sent back to him

ComicChams:

unopened. So there's the there's the reason for why he should

ComicChams:

would have popped up in Japan. That would make more sense,

ComicChams:

because he's checking up on an old friend, yes, yes, and when

ComicChams:

he arrives, he gets immediately stopped by immigration, um,

ComicChams:

luckily for him, though, the head of the offices in Japan is

ComicChams:

actually another old friend of his name Asano, who allows Logan

ComicChams:

to stay with him until he learns what's happening with Mariko.

ComicChams:

And he learns, upon going to find her at her place, that

ComicChams:

she's been married off to an abusive man named noburu, and

ComicChams:

that her father, Lord Shingen Yoshida, was the one that's

ComicChams:

responsible for arranging this marriage, and she doesn't want

ComicChams:

to leave, nor noburu, because she's staying with him for

ComicChams:

honor. Logan's devastated by this, but before he can properly

ComicChams:

leave, Logan gets created by Nobo, who's very upset over his

ComicChams:

wife having another man in the house. So they decide to head on

ComicChams:

over to the Ishida residence, where Shingen is there. And he

ComicChams:

decides he wants to battle with Logan in the duel, and the two

ComicChams:

of them fight. Logan gets a chance. We see this is the first

ComicChams:

time Logan's using a sword, a Katana sword, in order to fight,

ComicChams:

but because he gets frustrated with the fact that Shingen is

ComicChams:

actually hitting him on his pressure points in order to

ComicChams:

weaken him, Logan pulls his claws, and Mariko is horrified

ComicChams:

to see this. But then Shingen, knowing that he's in a more

ComicChams:

aggravated state, is able to leave him broken, poisoned and

ComicChams:

mentally unwell, and he throws him in the street, where Logan

ComicChams:

gets attacked by some people who are calling him Gaijin, and

ComicChams:

Logan just kills them. Oh, well, that's one way to solve the

ComicChams:

problem. So Logan wakes up, um, he gets saved by more from more

ComicChams:

people attacking by Yukio. This is yukio's appearance. Now she's

ComicChams:

an assassin. She's infatuated by him, and they like fight against

ComicChams:

it gets introduced more so that he's fighting now against the

ComicChams:

hand, the same ninja clan that we're introduced to in the

ComicChams:

movie. And Yukio reveals that she's being hunted by them

ComicChams:

because she defy, yeah, she defied their leader, who was

ComicChams:

actually a crime lord. Mm, okay, and I like it, yeah. And this

ComicChams:

whole time they decided to form an alliance. But then Yukio

ComicChams:

loves the savage side of Wolverine, while Wolverine is

ComicChams:

trying to be a kinder. Man because he wants to be with

ComicChams:

Mariko. So the whole comic is really just him fighting

ComicChams:

against, again, the animal versus the man, which is what I

ComicChams:

can see, what they were trying to do with this film. But they

ComicChams:

just focus too heavily on it being gene and never really kind

ComicChams:

of express that. Like, why is he the animal? Like, I could see it

ComicChams:

in the dialog, where he's just, like, with the killing of gene,

ComicChams:

I killed my humanity. But they never really explained that,

ComicChams:

because it's like he did it to save the world. Yeah, and I did

ComicChams:

forget to mention, like, for most of this movie, is very

ComicChams:

passive to like, just the overarching thing of the movie

ComicChams:

is that, you know, he has, there's this question

ComicChams:

introduced, like, if he wants to be mortal at the beginning,

ComicChams:

right? So, you know his goal, loosely is established, like he

ComicChams:

wants to be mortal. But in the rest of the movie, him

ComicChams:

protecting Mariko doesn't get him any closer to his journey of

ComicChams:

being mortal. And in fact, he rejects the idea of being

ComicChams:

immortal because he wants to protect her, which I get what

ComicChams:

you're trying to do. But again, it's like this doesn't benefit

ComicChams:

him in any way, like it doesn't get him closer. So it's like the

ComicChams:

question of mortality or not is dropped. So if you want to see a

ComicChams:

movie where you know someone near immortal is grappling with

ComicChams:

whether they should do it or not, watch Deadpool two damn

ComicChams:

like the other end of the spectrum. Um, so now that Logan

ComicChams:

is just hanging around with Yukio. They just he gets he's

ComicChams:

and he's like leaning into this more angry, saddest himself. He

ComicChams:

decides that he wants to fight against the Ishida clan, once

ComicChams:

again, fight against the engine, try to save Marco. So they head

ComicChams:

over to a play. Unfortunately, the play turns out to be again,

ComicChams:

a bunch of the hand ninja clan members are there to fight him

ComicChams:

once again and try to capture Yukio, and he ends up killing

ComicChams:

every single person that is attacking him. Marco sees this,

ComicChams:

and she's just like, I'm done, completely done. So he's now

ComicChams:

wallowing in misery, doing all this stuff, he decides to head

ComicChams:

back to his um, to the hotel of his friend, Asano, who has been

ComicChams:

murdered. Oh, this man had two lines in the comic and was

ComicChams:

murdered. That's what you get for being near Wolverine. So

ComicChams:

when he is looking up what happened to Asano, he finds a

ComicChams:

blade, and he smells on it that is Yukio, um, but he also

ComicChams:

realizes that the poison on it is something that he that was

ComicChams:

used against him by Shingen. So he tries to confront Yukio about

ComicChams:

it, but unfortunately, he doesn't get any he doesn't get

ComicChams:

any of his stuff answered. Yukio escapes, so now he has to find a

ComicChams:

way to talk to Shingen about everything that's been happening

ComicChams:

here. So they fight. That's basically all that happens.

ComicChams:

Yukio gets captured at some point, Shingen shares about how

ComicChams:

he doesn't like Yukio has never explained how they know each

ComicChams:

other.

ComicChams:

So now, when they finally get their Shingen and Wolverine

ComicChams:

finally have their duel, Wolverines finally prepared to

ComicChams:

take them out. And this is when Mariko intervenes from Wolverine

ComicChams:

killing Shengen, her father, and gives her the family sword as a

ComicChams:

symbol of his redemption. Logan rejects the sword, claiming that

ComicChams:

he's unworthy. And Marco says that don't worry, you are a man

ComicChams:

of honor in my eyes. And this rekindles their relationship to

ComicChams:

the point where Wolverine proposes, she says yes, and it

ComicChams:

turns into a full wedding event where all the X Men come to

ComicChams:

arrive to celebrate Wolverine and getting married to Margo,

ComicChams:

the end of his temping career. Yep, but don't worry, that's not

ComicChams:

the end of this particular story. Oh, because during the

ComicChams:

wedding, unfortunately, it gets cut short by the silver samurai

ComicChams:

who makes an appearance. Silver Samurai is teamed up with his

ComicChams:

master Viper, and it's revealed that silver Samurai is actually

ComicChams:

Marco's half brother, Harada. Okay, okay, okay, I'm following.

ComicChams:

They battle, uh, Marco and Yukio actually decide to team up this

ComicChams:

go around. So Yukio pretends to be Marco when she when Marco

ComicChams:

gets captured, um, and they all fight. Basically, it ends with.

ComicChams:

If, like, this massive explosion almost kills everyone. The X Men

ComicChams:

survive, Logan decides to continue on with the wedding.

ComicChams:

But something is said to Mariko, where she decides she does not

ComicChams:

want to marry Logan anymore and tells him that he needs to go

ComicChams:

home, because from what he saw, what she saw from Him, He will

ComicChams:

always just be a Berserker. And it the whole comic ends with

ComicChams:

just like Logan decided to return back of the X Men, and

ComicChams:

you just see a single tier running down his face. Well,

ComicChams:

back to simpin. It was like, What's gene doing today? But,

ComicChams:

yeah, that is basically the story there. Um, it definitely

ComicChams:

it differs, as I mentioned so much, from the movie, because

ComicChams:

they tried to tie in more so of just like how Wolverine tries to

ComicChams:

navigate the world as being such an animalistic person, while

ComicChams:

also trying to recognize that he is a man still, um, it does

ComicChams:

create more of a I could see what they were trying to adapt

ComicChams:

into the movie. Not everything came across clearly, because

ComicChams:

this is like some things you can and can do a lot of stuff that

ComicChams:

they had in this you can't really do just because I'm

ComicChams:

guessing, things that are acceptable and seeing on

ComicChams:

American productions. But maybe this was done differently,

ComicChams:

because this story was also adapted in 2011 when Marvel

ComicChams:

decided they were going to, like, dive into a bunch of anime

ComicChams:

productions. So this was also created in the anime form, in

ComicChams:

like a 12 episode mini series, I think, where Wolverine also

ComicChams:

takes another trip to Japan and goes through this entire story.

ComicChams:

I have not watched this. I am open to watching this as like a

ComicChams:

supplemental piece for this episode, though. So if y'all

ComicChams:

interested, yes, with there is a we have toyed around with doing

ComicChams:

a series of comparisons. For example, comparing the crisis we

ComicChams:

went through. Let me specifically the DC crisis, not

ComicChams:

one of the many crisises in life we've gone through, to the error

ComicChams:

verse crisis. So if you guys are interested in that sort of thing

ComicChams:

of comparing two adaptations of something and seeing who wins,

ComicChams:

let us know. Just don't make me do Red Hood Teen Titans from

ComicChams:

from Titans the show, because i My heart won't, will give out

ComicChams:

your crisis we had. So I don't know I'm feeling particular

ComicChams:

comic I think is a cool comic for Wolverine fans, because it

ComicChams:

really does create a story for where we're getting a chance to

ComicChams:

see how Wolverine navigates the world as a man, and how he

ComicChams:

struggles with going back and forth. And I think it ends up

ComicChams:

being a story that a lot of creators later on would try to

ComicChams:

incorporate into how they write out Wolverine story, especially

ComicChams:

with the introduction of characters like x 23 badger.

ComicChams:

Pink Dragon is also his son. So it's like all those particular

ComicChams:

character introductions stem a little bit from like, how did

ComicChams:

Wolverine become navigate this, like, dark moment in his life

ComicChams:

when he was trying to do the right thing. And with that,

ComicChams:

we're gonna wrap up our episode here today join us next time for

ComicChams:

our next big stop on the Ryan and Hugh road trip as we head

ComicChams:

back to our DC roots with one of the movies from the DC universe

ComicChams:

that is known worldwide as probably one of the worst

ComicChams:

creative films in all of history. And I that I mean the

ComicChams:

live action 2011 Green Lantern movie, yes, but is it? Does it

ComicChams:

deserve another look? Can he from willpower make a cap or a

ComicChams:

cape we'll see in the meantime, be sure to support us, either

ComicChams:

ComicChams:

life, probably don't take the sword. I mean, if if you want a

ComicChams:

free trip to Japan, that's fine, but just know that everybody and
